It’s funny that I’m writing this because I actually miss my short hair. I’ve had pretty short hair for a few years and I loved it! I think it made me look so hip and edgy lol, but I’m sure many of you guys don’t feel the same way with short hair. I took up the challenge and decided to finally grow out my hair for once. I managed to quickly grow out my hair with a few easy tips and tricks! (Pssstt.. I’m no magician, so don’t expect your hair to grow 10 inches overnight)
1. Split ends? Trim them!
If you regularly have split ends, then sorry to tell you this… But you need to chop them off. It’s difficult trying to grow out damaged, brittle hair, especially if you have split ends. The split ends will just continue splitting upwards if you don’t trim them. Getting an inch or two off every couple of months will help keep your hair look healthy and promote growth.
2. Conditioners, Serums, Masks!
I LIVE on conditioners, serums, and masks. If you haven’t been reading my blog for awhile, then maybe you were unaware of how damaged my hair used to be. Pretty embarrassing, but I did document most of my hair journey on this blog and my Instagram. That being said, I cannot stress how important it is to use a conditioner every time you shampoo, a serum or hair cream daily, and a mask weekly. It sounds a bit excessive, but TRUST… It’s so worth it.
Some of my current favourite hair products/collections are:
–L’Oréal Professionnel Serie Expert product line
–Voir Rhythm of the Rain Scalp Masque
–GLISS Hair Repair by Schwarzkopf
–Kérastase Elixir Ultime collection
If you have a bit of money to spend on a good in-salon treatment, then I HIGHLY recommend the Kérastase Fusio-Dose treatments. Hear about my experience here!
You can also use natural products such as coconut oil and olive oil to create your own masks.
3. Shampoo Every Other Day
Don’t shampoo your hair every day because it will dry out your hair! Pretty self-explanatory. Don’t think I need to go into any details haha.
4. Hair-Boosting Supplements
My favourite hair-boosting supplement that I’ve been using since March is Viviscal. I absolutely love the results I’ve been seeing with it. It has made my hair grow faster, thicker, and healthier! I highly recommend Viviscal to anyone who struggles with hair growth or thinning hair.
You can read about my progress of using Viviscal for only 2 months! I also share my progress here and there on Instagram.
5. Don’t Brush Your Hair so Often
Yes, I know your hair probably feels so smooth after a good brushing, but STOP! Don’t brush your hair so often because it can actually lead to more breakage, especially if your hair is usually a bit tangled up. Brushing through the tangles can break and tear your hairs, which is a huge no no. A great product to use before brushing your hair is the L’Oréal Professionnel Serie Expert Anti-Breakage Brush Proof. Using it before brushing will prep and prime your hair beforehand. It detangles and conditions your hair to allow your brush to ease through each strand.
6. Say No to Heat and Chemical Treatments
Another self-explanatory point. Just don’t do it. Don’t bleach your hair 3 times in a day. Don’t be a Sally.
7. Try Braiding Instead of a Pony Tail
If you tie your hair often for whatever reason then maybe try braiding instead. I work as a server and I go to the gym a lot, which means that my hair is up and out of my face 80% of the time. I used to tie my hair into tight ponytails, but it doesn’t do your hair any good. Now I have a bit of fun with braiding my hair to prevent any breakage and damage that a ponytail can do.
I hope these tips help! I know how frustrating growing out short hair can be, but be patient. Good things come to those who wait, right?! Share these tips or pin the image above if you know anyone who is trying to grow out their hair 🙂
