I am always on the constant outlook for new hair care products. Like most girls, I’ve had my fair share of bleaching and chemical processes. Ok, not a fair share; I overdid it. My hair is damaged, extremely dry, and over processed. It was way worse back in November, but luckily my hair dresser did her magic on reviving my hair. However, one-time treatments at the salon won’t save your hair. You have to constantly be taking care of your hair if you want it to be full-bodied and healthy!
I’ve spent a lot of money trying to find the right hair care products that actually work. It’s very overwhelming when you step into Walmart or a Sally’s Beauty Store because of the countless products and brands on display. Which one do you pick? What if it doesn’t work the way it claims to? Through my experiences and obsessive beauty hauls, I have some products to share with you all! And yes, they really do work!
1. L’Oreal Paris Total Repair EXTREME ($8-10)
This product is a double serum to fix and mend extremely dry and damaged ends. The red serum claims to deeply penetrate the hair fibers while the clear serum works to bind the split ends. I don’t believe that any product can fully repair split ends because your hair is already torn into pieces. BUT, this duo serum really did my hair justice! I instantly noticed the difference in my hair; it felt softer and manageable. The downside is that it’s only 15mL which is definitely not very much. I would recommend purchasing this whenever it does go on sale at Walmart, Shoppers Drug Mart, or your local superstore.
This is also another AMAZING alternative! It’s only $2 per tube!
2. L’Oreal Total Repair Replenishing Mask ($5-8)
I swear I’m not sponsored by L’Oreal! Their products really do work and they have a variety of lines to fit your hair situation. I’ve actually been using this mask for a while and I think I’m on the 4th or 5th container. You leave it in your hair for a few minutes after shampooing and it makes your hair feel silky soft! A little definitely goes a long way with this one.
Another great alternative mask that works very well.
3. Pantene Pro-V Overnight Miracle Repair Serum ($5-8)
This product is an overnight serum that is supposed to help erase damage while you sleep. I love packing in hair treatments before I sleep so that I can wake up with smooth hair. The consistency isn’t too heavy, so it won’t ruin your pillow case or leave an oily residue. What I also love about this product is that it doesn’t leave your hair feeling crunchy the next morning (my biggest hair pet peeve ever).
Olaplex is definitely not something you can find at your local drugstore as it is a high end, salon-only product. It is a three-step system for salons, but this little bottle is a bring-home treatment that hairdressers tend to recommend to their clients for maintenance between chemical services. Olaplex reconnects broken disulfide sulfur bonds in your hair that has been broken during thermal, mechanical, and chemical services. This bottle is only 100mL and you use it once a week between chemical services to strengthen hair. If it’s in your budget, I give it a thumbs up! I would also recommend getting the in-salon treatments every couple of months too as they help a LOT ($40-50)!
You can now purchase it from Amazon!
This one is the cheapest and the most natural product you could use! If your hair is dry, why not use some coconut oil to smooth it out? Coconut oil works to stimulate hair growth, add shine and soften, and help prevent hair breakage. I like using it in my hair as a hair treatment and washing it out afterward. Sometimes I even take a little bit to smooth out the ends of my hair and giving it a shine. I wouldn’t recommend to pack it in your hair before going out unless you’re going to wash it out or else your hair will look too greasy!
